Planning for the fair to be known as the Age of Discovery International Exposition ended in 1985. An independent, non-profit Chicago World's Fair 1992 Corporation was established in the early 1980s to begin planning a 1992 fair. Its functions merged into the official Illinois state agency known as the Chicago World's Fair--1992 Authority, when that agency was established (with similar personnel).
